For the second year in a row, the Venice International Film Critics’ Week celebrates the Lion of the Future – “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film awarded to one of its films, namely Küf (Mold) by Turkish director Ali Aydın (Turkey, Germany).
The film was presented in competition at the 27. Venice International Film Critics’ Week – independent section organised within the 69. Venice Film Festival – and will be released in Italy by Sacher Distribuzione.
Francesco Di Pace, General Delegate of the Venice Critics’ Week stated: «Crowning our constant search for new talented directors with such an important award makes us extremely proud of our work. Küf is a powerful, fascinating, stylistically rigorous film that reveals a new filmmaker with an undeniable future ahead. The Venice International Film Critics’ Week takes this opportunity to thank the producers, the world sales company and director Ali Aydın for their trust in our section. We would like to thank Sacher Distribuzione too, as they foresaw the film’s potential to be distributed in Italy.»
Nanni Moretti of Sacher Distribuzione stated: «I am very happy. 2012 has been a particularly lucky year: after the Academy Award for A Separation and the Golden Bear for Caesar Must Die, now it is time for Küf to be awarded among so many debut features. This makes us very proud. Although this is his debut film, Ali Aydın already shows distinctive style and personality.»
The Lion of the Future Jury – Luigi De Laurentiis Venice Award for Best First Feature – chaired by Shekhar Kapur and comprised of Michel Demopoulos, Isabella Ferrari, Matt Reeves, Bob Sinclar, awarded the prestigious Venice festival’s Lion of the Future to Küf (Mold) as well as a prize of 100,000 USD, donated by Filmauro Aurelio e Luigi De Laurentiis, to be divided equally between the director and the producer.
