Oscar© 2017: Tanna Advances in Foreign Language Shortlist

Venice Critics’ Week 2015 Audience Award Winner and Australia’s entry in the foreign language Oscar category, Tanna, has advanced to the next round, with Bentley Dean and Martin Butler’s South Pacific-set feature making the coveted final nine.  

Announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the full list of contenders include Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World (Cannes Grand Prix 2016 – Canada), Asghar Fahadi’s The Salesman (Cannes Best Actor and Best Screenplay 2016 – Iran), Andrei Konchalovsky’s Paradise (Venice Best Director Award 2016 – Russia), Maren Ade’s Toni Erdmann (Germany), Martin Zandvliet’s Land of Mine (Denmark), Erik Poppe’s The King’s Choice (Norway), Hannes Holm’s A Man Called Ove (Sweden), Claude Barras’ My Life as a Zucchini (Switzerland).
